I have a theory...

That nobody uses the word "ornery" outside of Utah. I don't even think they know what it means, that's how often they use it out here in not-Utah. I doubt I ever heard it before going to BYU. Maybe I'm just uneducated... but I don't think so, because I've always been a sort of vocabulary-nerd.
I hate that word. Ornery. Just awful.

I think in texas it's only used on farm animals and people acting like farm animals. It's progressed to awnry for general usage.

I COMPLETELY AGREE! I can't stand that word and NEVER heard it before going to Utah...heard it ALL THE TIME while in Utah...never heard it since, except from people who LIVE in Utah. I kind of want to write this entire comment in all caps but I think the few words I chose will suffice. While I'm at it, I also think the word "pet peeve" is completely awful.

Haha!! I actually HAVE heard the word ornery here in California. It's usually in an area that I like to call "the sticks". And just for fun sometimes... I use the word myself. Because it's there.

Found you thru D'Arcy, so you must be good people. :)

Oh, I totally hate that word! I refuse to use it and hate when my friends do (I also hate "tasty").

Once I used the phrase "in my stead" (telling someone to "go in my stead") and was told that was a weird, Utah phrase. I'm still not sure about that.

Hey, I've missed your posts lately! I hope all is well. I don't know how I'm surviving without your humor and insight into all things funny.

And thanks for the "ornery" discussion. I use the word a lot. But every time I go to type it, it just looks dorky and like it's a fake word. :D
