Suckey, suckey blogger...

That's me.
I never blog anymore, and when I do, it's just a little comment like this about how bad I am at it lately.
So, yeah.
I am doing the whole flip-flop thing about going private... You know, so I can talk about stuff. Put up pics. Et al. And not be all "well, this is going out into the void where any old stalker and/or pervert or creep can find it, hunt me down, and torture me about my personal life and my opinions about fashion and Nicolas Cage's 'acting' (perhaps even by making me watch 'Face/Off' over and over...oy vey)..." You know, the usual concerns...
But, see, then, I can't look at my statcounter and think about my popularity the world over, my fans in Italy, and China, and all isles tropical... And, I gotta say, sometimes those random hits make me feel all warm and fuzzy. 'Yes! I have international appeal! I knew it!'
What do you think? For those of you who have taken the plunge and "gone private," is it suckey? And, if so, how would you rate the suckiness? Like: me, as a blogger, suckey? Or: Britney Spears, as a classical singer, suckey? Or: is it just, oops, I dropped my peanut-butter-toast face-down, suckey?

Well, if it's numbers your after, yes, it's "suckey"...most of our family doesn't even check ours out anymore since they don't feel like going through that extra step of signing in. But, if you want the freedom of spouting out whatever and not having that stalker come and find you, privates the way to go. It's whatever you prefer...either way, I'll still be here checking out your posts!

I hate private blogs because they dont' work with my blog reader (google reader), so I have to go manually check those... which is a royal pain...

just my 2cents

I am grateful we went private, but I do agree that it stinks somewhat. Since Google Reader doesn't work on private blogs, I don't get a lot of hits anymore. But...in reality...I don't care because it shows who really wanted to read the blog in the first place when they go through the efforts to log in and check it out, you know? :)

Good luck with that decision. It's a tough one...I debate changing it back all the time, but I don't think I'll do it. There's just something about being private and keeping my kiddos lives safe that means more to me!

I've also faced this dilemma. I can't post pics of my cute nephews (because my sister won't let me since I'm not private). So, I just talk about other things and put pictures of me on there since I am my own boss. I do like being read by lots of people and I've been found by a lot of old friends and it's fun. I guess you could do two blogs! One private for family -- and then keep your fashion blog. I remember laughing for hours reading your old posts. You are a gem! Don't disappear!

Private blogs are LAME! I agree it is so much harder to read them when they don't show up in google reader. And I gotta say... you have a much better change of getting a creepy pervert stalker from people in your town who see you walking around than some random person online who sifted through the gazillion other people online. So as long as your not posting naked baby pics, your address, your social security number or whatever I'd say your pretty safe :)

Well, you know what I've done-2 blogs. It's kind of a pain to keep up, and I'm pretty sucky about it. But I finally decided that I just have two totally different audiences, and I like communicating to both of them, but in very different ways.

And I don't really get what the big deal about google reader is, but apparently I'm missing something.

chelle you ARE missing out with google reader for real.

don't go private. i forget to check private blogs.

yet, i have a stalker, and i have a hard time knowing he is reading my blog, i wish i would have changed my blog site name, but i've already got the business cards printed!

oy vey indeed.

Well, I've been thinking about doing that too, but haven't for the same reasons you're resisting. Plus, like what's been previously said, private blogs don't show up on my google reader or RSS feed, so half the time I don't even know my peeps have posted. I keep up with a lot of blogs (cause I'm a reading whore AND super nosy), so I'm not going to remember to check everyone that I want to keep up with when almost everyone else is on my feed.

We're private and I love it...wouldn't have it any other way. It's creepy how ex's can track you down and keep up with you. Ugh, I shudder. I'm sure it's a pain to others who have to sign in, but I'd rather get to write about what I want and control who reads it, you know? I'd like for you to blog more about you, so if going private is the means to that end then I vote for you to go private!

The two blogs idea is a good one; if you can't decide between the two, do both!
